What is WordPress? WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool written in PHP. But in non-geek speak, it’s probably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today.

           The files of WordPress define many useful PHP functions. Some of the functions, known as Template Tags, are defined especially for use in WordPress Themes. There are also some functions related to actions and filters (the Plugin API), which are therefore used primarily for developing Plugins. The rest are used to create the core WordPress functionality.
Many of the core WordPress functions are useful to Plugin and Theme developers. So, this article lists most of the core functions, excluding Template Tags. At the bottom of the page, there is a section listing other resources for finding information about WordPress functions. In addition to this information, the WordPress Code Reference site details all the WordPress functions by version since 2.6.1.

WordPress is an excellent website platform for a variety of websites. From blogging to e-commerce to business and portfolio websites, WordPress is a versatile CMS.

Joomla is a free and open-source content management system (CMS) for publishing web content, developed by Open Source Matters, Inc. It is built on a model–view–controller web application framework that can be used independently of the CMS.
Joomla is written in PHP, uses object-oriented programming techniques (since version 1.5) and software design patterns, stores data in a MySQL, MS SQL (since version 2.5), or PostgreSQL (since version 3.0) database, and includes features such as page caching, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, search, and support for language internationalization.[4][5][6]
Over 8,000 free and commercial extensions are available from the official Joomla Extensions Directory, and more are available from other sources.[7] It is estimated to be the second most used content management system on the Internet, after WordPress.[8]
Jimdo offers JimdoFree, a free web hosting service, JimdoPro and JimdoBusiness, both premium services. Jimdo is operated by Jimdo GmbH, a company based in Hamburg, Germany
Jimdo was founded in February 2007 by Matthias Henze, Christian Springub, and Fridtjof Detzner.[6]
In April 2009, after Yahoo! announced that GeoCities was closing, Jimdo announced that former GeoCities users were welcome on Jimdo.[7] Jimdo started the "Lifeboat for GeoCities" promotion to help users transition to Jimdo.[8] Jimdo offered a 10 percent discount to users who moved from GeoCities and Google Page Creator to the JimdoPro service.[9]

Weebly (/ˈwiːbli/) is a web hosting service specifically oriented for online shopping, headquartered in San Francisco. Its parent company is Square, Inc., and currently has more than 45 million customers around the world.[1] Weebly was founded by Chief Executive Officer David Rusenko, Chief Technology Officer Chris Fanini, and former Chief Product Officer Dan Veltri.[2][3]Dave Rusenko, Chris Fanini, and Dan Veltri co-founded Weebly in 2006.[3] Rusenko and Fanini both attended the College of Information Sciences and Technology at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State) while Veltri attended the university's Smeal College of Business. The three founders were all 22-year-old students at Penn State when they founded the company. At the time, Penn State required all students to maintain an Internet portfolio, so they built upon this idea and created software that made it easy for anyone to build a personal website.[3

Yola (/ˈjoʊlə/) is a website builder and website hosting company headquartered in San Francisco. However, it was founded in Cape Town, South Africa. People without programming and graphic design skills can make web sites using Yola. Its drag and drop system allows users to incorporate widgets without knowing HTML. Yola also integrates e-commerce and blog software and acts as a domain registrar. It competes with other web hosting and creation such as Wix, Weebly, Jimdo and Webs.[2]
